COSMIC RECHARGE SERIES (2009)

Cosmic Recharge comprises a series of sculptures -or cosmic Plug-In Stations - called Wing Grower, Embracer and Cosmic Trumpet. They appear on a bit of 'sacred space' - a patch of gold-leafed floor- where the viewer can inhabit and test them. These sculptural objects are spirit recharge machines that are intended for interaction by everyday people. We are all holy- that we exist, is miraculous. So, by plugging into a heavenly machine, we become part of its aura.

The Cosmic Recharge machines are also portable ‘axis mundi’ –thresholds to another dimension,  just like our mobile devices - to the place where we go when we close our eyes and contemplate our inner selves. Their function is to recover parts of the psyche that may be temporarily dissonant. Being within them encourages reflection about being; and the possibilities and pitfalls of belonging to humanity.

 COSMIC RECHARGE SERIES, 2009

(The Cosmic Recharge project is an ongoing series couched in the larger experience of otherness and acculturation through Hanna’s migration from Germany to Australia, and also her family’s affinities to the religious cultures of India. Visually, these objects conjure aspects of Hanna’s biography and the travels of her childhood: shells found on the Australian shore, Asian Sci-Fi Transport machines, Indian Temples, Gothic Church Altars and Baroque furniture. Being in-between the cosmological aspirations and confusions of a multi-cultural, migrant upbringing is possibly familiar to many contemporary Australians.)
