Soul Mine (Moonvessel & Horn) 2020

KINGSGROVE SYDNEY. FABRICATED BY UAP COMPANY. FOR CULTURAL CAPITAL STUDIO & THE CANAL TO CREEK PUBLIC ART PROGRAM SYDNEY

Soul Mine gently gestures to the connection between the cosmic constellations, human mapping of water and land, and our ancient & compelling courage to travel. Moonvessel is a celestial body, but is shaped like a canoe, a symbol of journey. Created at a human scale, the crescent moon invites passers-by to sit and lie in the cradle of the sculpture to stargaze and dream. The gramophone Horn is a mechanical version of the trumpet shape used by humans for millennia to communicate, to amplify song and sound – here it is also an allegory for the crescendo of our soul’s turbulence. Our Soul Mines are repositories, full of our stories and the unique metaphysics of each being.

This work makes a relationship between our inner world & our shared universe; our capacity to play music together & to navigate the unknown.
